This tour will bring you closer to the history, legends and folklore of Tiber Island and one of Rome's most significant neighborhoods: Trastevere. We will lead you to the hidden wonders of its squares, its hidden gems, its churches and monuments. The visit will start from Fabricio Bridge (Ponte Fabricio), where you will meet our expert guide, ready to take you to the only island in the eternal city that takes its name from the river that so warmly embraces it: the Tiber. You will cross Ponte Fabricio, the oldest Roman bridge still in use, which connects the left bank of the Tiber River with the island. You will travel back in time to retrace the steps of the Greeks and Romans and discover the events that took place on this small strip of land. The island - which formed from volcanic rocks and river sediment accumulated over millennia - was sacred to the Romans. Many legends are linked to its unique ‘ship’ shape. Visiting it, you will discover all the stories about its origins and better understand what many believe is the smallest inhabited island in the world. The tour will continue with a walk through Rome's prettiest neighborhood: Trastevere. On your way, you will come across the Basilica of San Crisogono, one of the oldest Roman basilicas. This basilica is usually not crowded by tourists, so here is why we wanted to take you there: the frescoes, the paintings and the remains of the original church are what you will love the most in this 17th-century masterpiece. The walk continues to Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere with its splendid Basilica, the first official place of Christian worship in Rome. The Basilica is a splendid example of beauty and art treasures. You will be impressed by its magnificent mosaics, which you will admire from the outside. You will be particularly caught by the 13th century mosaic on the upper part of the façade, as well as the splendid mosaics in the apse basin that date back to the time of Innocent II, or those by Pietro Cavallini from the 13th century, depicting the stories of the Virgin Mary. Left the Basilica, your tour will continue to discover the romantic and typical alleys and Piazza San Cosimato, with its homonymous church dating back to the 10th century (visited from the outside). Walking through the alleys you will reach Piazza San Francesco d'Assisi, where you will admire the beautiful Baroque Church of San Francesco a Ripa, a place of great spirituality in the heart of Rome. The beautiful Baroque church houses the cell, now a Sanctuary, where St Francis was received during his papal visits to Rome. San Francesco a Ripa is also a place of art, where priceless artworks such as Bernini's "Estasi della Beata Ludovica” (The Ecstasy of the Blessed Ludovica) or the works of Giorgio De Chirico are collected and preserved. Your experience will end passing by the Basilica of Santa Cecilia, patron saint of musicians, on your way back to Tiber Island.
